Dermal Fillers FAQ’s

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances typically made from chemicals called hyaluronic acid or other biological materials which are suitable for being injected under the skin. They are used to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They can also be used to plump up lips, soften lines, fill in hollow areas, and restore youthful facial proportions. The treatment is minimally invasive and provides immediate results with little to no waiting time. Results typically last several months to a year, depending on the type of filler used and the area treated.

Type of Dermal Filler BW MedAesthetics will be using.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers:
This is the most common type of filler. HÀ is a naturally occurring substance (chemical) in the skin that helps maintain hydration (water in the skin) and volume. There are different brands available. Your practitioner will talk to you about which one would be most suitable for you.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Volume Restoration:
As we age, the skin loses volume due to the decrease in fat, collagen, and hyaluronic acid in your body. Dermal fillers replace this lost volume, plumping up the skin and restoring a youthful appearance.

Smoothing Wrinkles:
Fillers can fill in wrinkles and fine lines, such as nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth down to the chin).

Enhancing Contours:
Fillers can enhance facial features such as the cheeks, lips, chin, and jawline. By adding volume to these areas, fillers can improve symmetry and definition.

What can I expect during my Dermal Filler treatment?

Consultation:
The process begins with a consultation to determine your needs and select the appropriate filler.

Preparation:
Your skin is cleaned, and sometimes a topical anaesthetic is applied to your skin to minimise discomfort.

Injection:
The filler will be injected into the targeted areas to be treated using a fine needle or cannula. Your practitioner may massage the area to ensure even distribution of the product.

Aftercare:
You will be given instructions to avoid strenuous activity, excessive sun, heat exposure, and not to touch or massage the treated areas immediately after the procedure.

Do Dermal Fillers have any side effects?

Side Effects:
Common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness at the injection site. These usually resolve within a few days.

Complications:
Rare complications can include infection, lumps, migration of the filler, and in severe cases, vascular occlusion leading to tissue damage.

To Note: Please ensure you use a Qualified Practitioner to perform your treatments:
It is crucial to have dermal fillers administered by a qualified and experienced healthcare professional to minimise risks and achieve optimal results. Beth, being a paramedic is also able to administer emergency medication in the unlikely case it is required.

Are Dermal Fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are safe for most people when performed by qualified professionals using appropriately approved products. Understanding the risks, having realistic expectations, and adhering to aftercare instructions are crucial for a successful outcome. Always consult with your healthcare provider to determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs.
