Dermal Fillers are injectable substances, typically made from hyaluronic acid or other biological materials suitable for injection beneath the skin. They're used to add volume, smooth wrinkles and enhance facial contours, and can also plump the lips, soften lines, fill hollow areas and restore more youthful facial proportions.

Treatment is minimally invasive and provides immediate results with little to no waiting time. Results typically last several months to a year, depending on the type of filler used and the area treated.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers are the most common type used. HA is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps maintain hydration and volume. Several brands are available, and your practitioner will talk you through which would be most suitable for you.

Volume restoration: as we age, the skin loses volume due to a decrease in fat, collagen and hyaluronic acid. Dermal Fillers replace this lost volume, plumping the skin and restoring a more youthful appearance.

Smoothing wrinkles: fillers can fill in wrinkles and fine lines, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Enhancing contours: fillers can enhance the cheeks, lips, chin and jawline, improving symmetry and definition.

Consultation: the process begins with a consultation to determine your needs and select the appropriate filler.

Preparation: your skin is cleaned, and a topical anaesthetic may be applied to minimise discomfort.

Injection: filler is injected into the targeted areas using a fine needle or cannula. Your practitioner may massage the area to ensure even distribution.

Aftercare: you'll be given instructions to avoid strenuous activity, excessive sun and heat exposure, and not to touch or massage the treated areas immediately after treatment.

Side effects: common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness at the injection site. These usually resolve within a few days.

Complications: rare complications can include infection, lumps, migration of the filler and, in severe cases, vascular occlusion leading to tissue damage.

It's crucial to have Dermal Fillers administered by a qualified, experienced practitioner to minimise risk and achieve optimal results. Beth, being a paramedic, is also able to administer emergency medication in the unlikely event it's required.

Dermal Fillers are safe for most people when performed by qualified professionals using appropriately approved products. Understanding the risks, having realistic expectations and following aftercare instructions are all important for a successful outcome. Suitability is always discussed with your practitioner to determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs.
